Bonneville Shoreline Act passes
Just before the Christmas Holiday, President Biden signed the Bonneville Shoreline Act which makes changes to land management boundaries so that the 280-mile Bonneville Shoreline trail in the Salt Lake City area can one day be completed.
“The Bonneville Shoreline Trail provides great outdoor recreational opportunities for Utahns, but several wilderness-designated areas along the trail are hampering full use of the trail,” said Senator Mitt Romney. “I’m proud that our legislation has made it across the finish line so that the trail can finally be completed, and that generation after generation will be able to enjoy the beauty of Utah’s surrounding landscape.”
Morse Park (unofficially) receives grant for expansion
In Missouri, the local group Bike Neosho is gearing up to expand the trails at Morse Park thanks to an incoming — though yet not official — grant. A total of $157K will go toward adding roughly three miles of singletrack which could include a jump line, bringing the park’s total trail mileage to an even ten.
New climbing trail at Pulpit Rock in Colorado Springs
The Austin Bluffs Open Space in Colorado Springs just added a new climbing trail up to Pulpit Rock. The 2-mile trail is multi-use, and open to non-motorized users.
Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance building bike park on Bainbridge Island
The Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance is set to build a community bike park at Strawberry Hill Park on Bainbridge Island, Washington. Plans call for a range of trails for all riding abilities.
Trail builder Brian Tustison said in a Facebook post, “If you’re aware of what we’ve been doing out at Port Gamble, then you know that we don’t need another big draw, but something complementary for folks in the neighborhood after school, after work, is kind of what our target demographic is here.”
National-caliber MTB destination planned for Bluff, New Zealand
The Southland Mountain Bike club is working with the Invercargill city council on a plan to create an outdoor adventure park known as Bluff Hill Motupōhue. Parks and Recreation manager Caroline Rain told Stuff, “Our aim is to make Bluff Hill Motupōhue a national mountain biking destination – a place that appeals to the needs of both recreational and elite riders.” Plans call for the park to open to the public sometime in 2024.
RASTA to groom fat bike trails this winter
The Rhinelander Area Silent Trails Association (RASTA) is testing fat bike trail grooming at the Washburn trails in Wisconsin this winter according to WJFW.
