Barkeater Trails Alliance now hiring for executive director
A month ago we posted the news that Josh Wilson was leaving his position as executive director of the Barkeater Trails Alliance (BETA), based in Lake Placid, New York. BETA is now actively seeking applicants for the new position. What does it take to lead a mountain bike trail organization?
BETA wants to see candidates with an education in recreation management or natural science-related fields, nonprofit experience, grant and fundraising knowledge, and a variety of other skills. Check out the posting to learn more.
New trail opens in Fort Worth, Texas
The Fort Worth Mountain Bikers’ Association celebrated the opening of four miles of trails at North Z Boaz Park this past weekend. The trails will be used for high school mountain bike athletes and is open to the community as well.
Burns Park in Little Rock, Arkansas closed due to tornado damage
Severe weather struck Arkansas late last week and Burns Park in Little Rock was heavily damaged. The City of North Little Rock says the park is closed to bikes and all other visitors, and park staff are working to make the area safe. Volunteers are not needed at this time, though the city notes volunteers are needed in other parts of the city to help with recovery.
Fundraiser for Finn Hill trail project in St. Sault Marie, Ontario
The Sault Cycling club in Ontario, Canada is hosting a fundraising dinner for the Finn Hill trail project. The group hopes to raise $150,000 through various efforts to fund trail design and construction of the trail on city-owned property. Mountain bike trails reopen in Suffolk County, New York
A handful of trails has been reopened by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation after the closure of hunting season. The Otis Pike Pine, Rocky Point Pine, and Eastport Pine trails in Barrens State Forest are now open for the season.
Derby, Tasmania trail repaired just in time for UCI EDR race
The Blue Derby trails in Tasmania suffered a dramatic land slide in October of last year, and required months of work for geotechnical engineers and workers to repair. According to ABC News Australia, the major repairs were completed just in time for this week’s UCI Enduro event.
