Boulder, Colorado trail closes due to aggressive cattle

Boulder County Parks and Open Space had to close a trail last week due to aggressive cattle. It’s unclear what altercations happened to cause the closure, but hopefully no one was hurt.

Ober Mountain opens lift-served DH trails in Tennessee

The Ober Mountain ski resort in Gatlinburg, TN just opened a lift-served DH bike park this summer with 11 new trails rated from beginner to expert. A single day pass costs $49 and bike rentals are available for an additional fee. The park says e-bikes are allowed, though uphill travel is not.

Plans for 6-8mi of new trails in Old Forge, NY

The McCauley Mountain Ski/Recreation Area trail system recently received a $250K grant to help build about seven new machine- and hand-built trails, adding 6-8 miles to the 30+ miles already in place.

Blue Mountain bike park opens for the season

The bike park at Blue Mountain Resort in Pennsylvania is now open for the season, Thursdays through Sundays. There are 29 trails to choose from, and the park will also host the Maxxis Eastern States Cup Showdown and a MASS Enduro event this summer.

Trestle Bike Park delays opening due to rain

Colorado has seen an unusual amount of rain this spring and now weather is delaying the opening of the most popular gravity park near the Front Range. Trestle Bike Park said on Instagram “after significant rainfall over the past few weeks, we have made the difficult decision to delay opening Trestle Bike Park.”

Rain and clouds have made it more difficult to dry off a very snowy winter for bike park crews and the extra moisture could complicate trail maintenance. Trestle didn’t offer a follow-up opening date.

Woman sustains injuries from cougar attack on trail

A British Columbia woman is recovering from minor injuries after a cougar attack on the Sunshine Coast, according to the Coast Reporter. The woman was riding on June 11 when the cougar lunged and swatted at the woman. A group of nearby trail builders were able to arrive shortly after and scare the cougar away. Land managers closed two trails in the area following the encounter.
