Construction starts on new North Carolina bike trail
Construction has started on the Chris Smith bike trail in Greenville, North Carolina. The trail will be about six miles long in Wildwood Park and should open sometime this summer according to the city of Greenville.
Slalom, skills park coming to Weldon Pete Park in Kentucky
A new bike skills park is coming to Weldon Pete Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky with a dual slalom park and a looped skills course. The course will have multiple features on it and is supposed to open by the end of July.
New bike park coming to Sioux City, Iowa
Rock Solid Trail Construction will start building the Cone Park Bike Park in Sioux City, Iowa, a trail system with different flow trails, as well as features and rock gardens, a pump track and jump lines. The project has received almost $3,000,000 in donations so far and construction is expected to start sometime this year.
SORBA-CSRA opens jump line at Keg Creek
The Augusta, Georgia area has a new jump line at the Keg Creek trail located on Clark’s Hill lake west of the city. According to a social media post, “The new jump line was open for business and over 30 riders were there to join the fun. That loop is awesome and there is a social/observation area right in the middle for hanging out to watch the action!”
Goats help keep Maryland trails up to snuff
A cadre of goats is helping keep a Brunswick, Maryland trail system in shape after kudzu, an invasive vine, has taken over the On the River’s Edge Trails. The City of Brunswick has employed 20 goats for two weeks to chop down on the kudzu and other invasive plants that can hog natural resources like sunlight and water. A local mountain bike advocate reportedly brought the kudzu issue to the town’s attention.
New bike park in Quezon City, Philippines
A former landfill in Quezon City in the Philippines will be turned into a bike park. The bike park will have four different routes with some beginner trails and is said to be part of the mayor’s plan to build a greener, more sustainable city.
Grant application for new Pennsylvania trails approved
A grant application for a mountain bike trails project in Altoona, Pennsylvania was approved by the city council in early May. If the grant application is approved, the money would go toward new trails, which some are hopeful will boost the town’s economy.
