*****   Add a review
#7 of 1,362 mountain bike trails in Colorado
#40 in the world

Great network of singletrack, technical, ledge/bench, downhill singletrack with a playground too. Includes Widowmaker Hill, Andy's Loop, Eagle Trail, Eagle View, Ribbon Trail, Tabeguche Trail, etc. This is a great network in the Grand Jct. area.

I've only done the outer loop of Gunny, near Little Park trailhead.

I rode up Pet-A-Kes as part of a grand loop of the Lunch Loops. It is good climbing singletrack that takes you well up towards the top of the area.

The Gunny Loop is not a loop. It starts (south end) by climbing about 300 feet to the highest part of the network and then descends about 800 feet and is intensively technical but not nasty or extreme. It's one of the best mountain bike trails on the planet.

When riding the Lunch Loops you'd be crazy not to build it into your circuit. It's two way but ride it south to north.

The Lunch Loops, sometimes known as the Tabeguache Trail Network, is technical - don't expect flow or relaxing back-country riding. It's rock-strewn - solid, chunky rocks that form steps, drops, squeezes, and more. They'll attack your chain wheel and pedals or just throw you off the mountain side if you don't pay attention. You need good balance to enjoy the Lunch Loops and if you have it you'll love these intense trails. There are steep sections and very steep sections. And actually, there are a few places where you can get up just a bit of speed.

Most people use the Monument Road trail-head and head south and up, for example, Tabeguache, Eagles, Pet-e-Kes, High Noon, Prenup and Gunny Loop which will run you over the top and down the other side. From there you could head back to the trailhead on Holy Bucket, Coyote Ridge, Raven Ridge, and Curts Lane. I mention those trails as examples; there are dozens of others and the area is extensive. To enjoy the Lunch Loops you probably need a plan and a map, and you'll probably need to come back a few times if you can't find a local to ride with.

By the way the Gunny Loop is not a loop. It starts by climbing about 300 feet to the highest part of the network and then descends about 800 feet and is intensively technical but not nasty or extreme. It's one of the best mountain bike trails on the planet.

Many different ways to go from the parking lot. Tabaguache is the double track road up. Stay on that to get to the top of Lemon Squeezer. Bring ALL your armour to do Pucker up. Holy Cross or L/S, to the parking lot. Fr a "longer" ride: "Tab" up to Eagles Wing. Left at Free Lunch to start Eagles Wing to Eagles Tail, and finish on Curts...

Took my wife and son on this trail way to advanced for us. We had to walk most of the inner trails. Lots of technical, but fun obstacles. Epic journey for us.

The Lunch Loop/Tabeguache trails are super fun. I've ridden here a couple of times and loved every minute of it.

There are muddy spots. Tip toed on the rocks around them. Lots of run off still.

Some places are above my level of competence, but rode or walked it anyway. A person fell off the "rock" at the beginning the day after I was there and we saw the 5 pieces of rescue equipment heading up Little Park road to pick up the remains. So, be careful when picking your way down that spot.....When ya get to the slickrock, it's a blast! Holy Cross is predominately downhill, but very challenging (even for experienced riders). But, the beer tastes great when ya finally make it down to HWY 340 parking lot by Lunch Loop.

I wish I had the ability to ride this trail. Even though the Holy Cross trail sucked the soul out of me, this is a 5 star designed trail! It really is a wonder.

IF I had the ability to ride it out, my 1 issue is the trail designers must be horse jockeys, as at 6'4" (riding a 29er/XL), you just don't fit under the juniper (and a few other spots).

These trails are freaking funner than hell!! you will work your butt off and get some scraps and bruises but its totally worth it. Very technical and even the best will have a hard time cleaning the whole thing. close to junction so afterwards a nice cold brew at kannah creek is always a good way to end a ride. For advanced riders only and you better bring your big boy pants.

I live in the area and this is my favorite ride. Challenging, Techy, but still flows well. If you like rock problems you will love this trail. Great reviews below.

This one is not for the faint of heart and quite challenging, even by Lunch Loops standards. Don't go here unless you're comfortable with 4 foot drops on narrow singletrack with big exposure.
